Cedar Valley Starts Tuesday with Another Wind Chill Advisory

Welcome to another cold Tuesday (Jan. 16, 2018) morning in the Cedar Valley. The National Weather Service in Des Moines says that we can expect very cold wind chills to start the day. A snow storm is projected to arrive late Sunday.

Strong northwest winds continue to blow through a large portion of Iowa. That will force the wind chill factor to 20 to 25 degrees below the actual air temperatures, which will see a high in the single digits.

The Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until noon today. The following counties in the Cedar Valley are listed under this advisory: Black Hawks, Butler, Bremer, Grundy, and Tama.

The NWS advised that the cold wind chills may cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Expect wind chills to range from 10 below zero to 25 below zero. Portions of central and south central Iowa are also under the advisory.

Today we will see flurries likely before 11:00 AM. Otherwise it will be a partly sunny day but cold. Our high for the day will be near 10 (wind chill values as low as -15)

Tonight it will be cloudy with a low around -4 (wind chill values as low as -15). A break from the cold temperatures arrives Wednesday with sunshine and a high near 21.

Looking ahead to the weekend, A storm system is forecast to arrive late Sunday into Monday (70%), and it  may bring accumulating snowfall and impact travel in the state.
