With Penguins Comedy Club currently closed, the owner of a brewery on the city's Southwest side has stepped up to fill the void for people needing an outlet to tickle their funny bones. They recently announced they were ceasing brewing operations and transitioning into another venture, and now we know what that venture is. You can read that previous story here. Owner Haley Flenker said the decision to cease brewing operations was made mostly out of expense, and not in response to the First and First development getting underway nearby. That project is set to bring, among other developments, a new Cedar Rapids location for the highly popular Big Grove Brewery.

Lucky Cat Comedy Club already has a website up and running where they are promoting Open Mic Tuesdays, Trivia Thursdays and Sunday Morning Yoga. They are also offering private event rentals, and a simple food menu that is "still in the works".

As to their drink offerings, they will include beer, wine, and seltzer, liquor and mixers, and cocktails and mocktails. The cocktail list includes a lavender vodka lemonade named after popular local drag queen Lexi Belle. There will also be non-alcoholic options.

Things are still getting going at the Lucky Cat, and she's lining up local and regional comics as we speak. Flenker says you can reach out to her on social media or the website if you'd like to be booked for a show.

When it fully reopens, Flenker plans to have about five part-time staff working for her, and the hours will be 4-9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.
