Let me start off by saying that M&M's are one of my favorite candies of all time, but this is just gross. This story is NOT for those with weak stomachs. Imagine pouring some M&M's into your hand, popping them in your mouth, you start chewing and then you realize what you're chewing on isn't a delicious chocolate confection, but someone's fake fingernail. Say it with me now...EWWWW!

That's just happened recently to a kindergarten teacher from Cedar Falls. Last week, Wendy Lee opened a new bag of M&M's planning on giving her students some as a treat with their afternoon snack. "I popped a few in my mouth and felt something unusual. My first thought was, 'Oh no!, I've broken a tooth', But when I took it out of my mouth, it was a dark brown acrylic fingernail"  (see photo below).

See that dark shiny object amongst my M&Ms? That's an acrylic fingernail!!!! It still has glue on the back!

Lee then emailed the company to let them know about her disgusting finding. At first she just received an automated response, then a short time later she received a response from Mars/Wrigley saying that "I cannot explain how this happened, but I can assure you this will be thoroughly investigated".

Lee says that someone did end up calling from Mars/Wrigley to get more information, and they're sending her a prepaid mailing label, so she can send the fingernail and the packaging into them. Also, they said they will keep her posted on what they find out. The company was also contacted via email for a comment for this article, and they have not yet responded. This incident remains under investigation and this article will be updated with the company's response.

In the meantime, the next time you pour some M&M's into your hand, you might want to do a quick double-check, that they all, in fact, are M&M's.
