When I first moved to Cedar Falls, I was REALLY excited about being close to to the delicious (and local) cupcakes you can find at Scratch Cupcakery. Luckily, this news is *mostly* good... today Scratch made some stunning announcements on its official Facebook page this afternoon. The post, which came from Natalie Brown, Scratch's founder, was filed with news. First off, Just Dough, the edible cookie dough shop from the same people who created Scratch, is closing for good on Saturday. The store, which is located by the Hy-Vee and Slumberland off University in Cedar Falls, opened in December 2018. The implication in the post is it did not survive the challenges of COVID-19. The dough will continue to be sold at Scratch.

Speaking of, the original Scratch on Main in Cedar Falls is going to be moving into that space. The need for space, as the post mentions, was too great. In non pandemic times, Scratch often sports long lines of loyal cupcake fans wanting to snatch up cupcakes before they run out.

In the post, Natalie addresses the surprise loyal fans many have regarding the decision to move,

Many will be surprised at our leaving downtown…no one more than me. I love our downtown. I love the people, I love the atmosphere, I love the connection I feel to the community I grew up in. My love and support for downtown doesn’t change, but we have outgrown our space and it’s time to move on.

I won't miss the lack of parking, or place to stand on a cold day. But, it kind of sad to see the original location close. Even if it's because it's getting a BIGGER location.
