Bicyclist Dies In Crash South Of Waterloo
Authorities are investigating a deadly accident involving a car and bicycle that happened south of Waterloo Monday morning (July 2, 2018).
Black Hawk County sheriff's officials confirm a woman was killed shortly after 6 AM, when her bicycle was struck by the vehicle on U.S. Highway 218 on the northern edge of Washburn. Authorities said the bicycle and car were both going southbound at the time of the crash.
According to sheriff's officials, the woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her name, and the identity of the driver, have not been released.
The Iowa State Patrol is assisting Black Hawk County sheriff's officials in the investigation.
The accident closed a segment of U.S. Highway 218 between County Road D-38 (Washburn Road) and County Road D-34 (E. Orange Road) for about three-and-a-half hours Monday morning. At 9:30 AM, the Iowa Department of Transportation was reporting that the shuttered section of highway had reopened.
