Black Hawk County, Linn County and Tama County authorities are warning people to be aware when traveling on rural roads and roads just outside of towns, due to a number of recent assaults.

This past month, three females have reported being assaulted in Black Hawk and Linn Counties while driving on sparsely populated roads (rural or outer urban roads).

In Black Hawk County the assaults took place near Dunkerton and also in Cedar Falls. In Linn County, the assault was near Cedar Rapids, and in Tama County a female was recently approached by a male south of Black Hawk County. Most of the incidents happened after dark.

Authorities are urging all motorists to use caution while driving on the roads and if you see anyone suspicious sitting along the highway to report the incident immediately. If your vehicle breaks down and you do not feel safe stay in your vehicle with the doors locked and call your law enforcement dispatch center so an officer can be dispatched to either help you or check out the suspicious person.
