Authorities investigating the death of a 6-year-old boy in Black Hawk County this week have closed the case.
According to sheriff's officials, preliminary autopsy results showed that Kanen McIntoch of rural Dunkerton died of a medical problem on Wednesday (June 13, 2018). In a press release, authorities said the Iowa State Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be sepsis that resulted from acute perionitis, which was caused by a burst appendix.
McIntoch was pronounced dead at a Waterloo hospital Wednesday morning. He was rushed to the emergency room after authorities were called to a home at 7114 E. Dunkerton Road (County Road C-66), just west of Dunkerton, on a report of a child not breathing.
