Area Wrestlers Ready for Sectionals This Weekend

The road to the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament begins this weekend with Class-1A and -2A sectional tournaments across the state. Teams from the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa will be competing at four separate locations.

In Class-1A, Hudson is hosting five other area teams. AGWSR, Clarksville, Dike-New Hartford, Don Bosco and Wapsie Valley are joining the Pirates, while North Butler, Sumner-Fredericksburg and Turkey Valley are all competing at Nashua-Plainfield. The first- and second-place winners from each sectional advance to the district tournament at Clarksville on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015.

Other Class-1A area teams are in Troy Mills, where North Linn is hosting East Buchanan and Jesup. Meanwhile, all seven teams at the Postville sectional are from the area: Central Community, Clayton Ridge, Edgewood-Colesburg, MFL-Mar-Mac, South Winneshiek, Starmont, and the host Pirates. First- and second-place individual place-winners from each district advance to next week's district tournament at Jesup.

Five of the six teams assigned to the Class-2A sectional in New Hampton are from the area. The Chickasaws are hosting Aplington-Parkersburg, Charles City, Waterloo Columbus Catholic and Denver-Tripoli, while the sectional meet at La Porte City Union features Center Point-Urbana, Gladbrook-Reinbeck/North Tama, the host Knights and Vinton-Shellsburg. The top two winners in each weight-class advance to the district tournament at Aplington-Parkersburg.

The other 2A sectional with area teams is at West Union, where North Fayette Valley is hosting Crestwood, Decorah, Independence, Oelwein and Waukon. In Manchester, West Delaware will be competing on its home mats, while hosting Dyersville Beckman Catholic and four other teams. The top place-winners from each sectional advance to the district tournament at Independence.

In all, wrestlers will be in action at 32 sectional sites across Iowa on Saturday. Competition at each location begins at noon. If you can't make it to one of the sectional sites on Saturday, just log-on to our website. We'll be updating the results from all 32 sites periodically throughout the day.
