American Craft Beer Week Ends Sunday
The highlight of my weekend, was finally getting the chance to spend some time at Anton's Garden, the new beer garden in downtown Waterloo and enjoying time with friends and a good craft brew.
I felt obligated, as I couldn't pass up the chance to celebrate "American Craft Beer Week", the nationwide celebration of U.S. small and independent craft brewers. The great thing is, you don't have to go far a GREAT craft brew...with many FANTASTIC local breweries to go enjoy a lovely beverage at right here in the Cedar Valley!
That being said...what are America's favorite beers? According to a survey by You Gov...the #1 is...Heineken. In fact, the top three are all imported. Here are the results...and, obviously this survey didn't ask Iowans, because Busch Light did NOT make the top 10, LOL!
1. Heineken.
2. Guinness.
3. Corona.
4. Samuel Adams.
5. Budweiser.
6. Coors.
7. Blue Moon.
8. Miller High Life.
9. Bud Light.
10. Corona Light.
I think this survey is SEVERELY skewed, as I would have never guessed that Heineken would be #1 in the US. If you look closer at the results, this will make you feel better. Taking a look at the "West North Central" region, Budweiser is actually in first place! So, there ya go, it's a battle of the supposedly "most popular" beer (Heineken) vs. the most famous and widely-known beer, Bud Light.
So, we may disagree with the results of the survey, but the great thing about this is...there really is no right or wrong...as a wiseman once said, "beauty is in the eye of the beerholder"!
Prost!
