A Cedar Rapids Comedy Club Will Shut Down in Early 2024
Another Cedar Rapids business is preparing to close in the new year. According to a new Facebook post, The Lucky Cat Comedy & Events will shut its doors in early 2024.
The Lucky Cat opened at 301 2nd Ave SW in May of 2022, but before it was The Lucky Cat, it was Thew Brewing. A 2022 article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the brewery underwent a rebrand in early 2023 after owners Travis and Haley Flenker decided to cease brewing operations due to the high cost.
Since its opening last year, The Lucky Cat has hosted lots of comedy shows, yoga classes, pub trivia, and open mic nights. Unfortunately, those events will only continue through the end of February. The post reads:
"For the past nearly six years, we have been at 301 2nd Avenue SW, first with Thew Brewing and then with the Lucky Cat. It's been a labor of love, and we are fortunate to have been part of such an incredible community. However, our lease ends at the end of February, and we have made the difficult decision to close the Lucky Cat at that time."
There is some good news, though! The venue's Tuesday open mic nights will live on at a new location. They will take place at Iowa Brewing Company (708 3rd St SE) beginning in March.
