A Business We Could Use Right Now in the Cedar Valley
To get through tough times, sometimes all you need is a laugh. But unfortunately, it’s not as simple as making reservations at local comedy club in 2020.
Reasons:
1.) Large gatherings/concerts aren’t happening anywhere right now
2.) A Comedy Club in Waterloo/Cedar Falls doesn’t exist.
Yeah, you can catch a special on Netflix anytime you want, but there’s something special about watching the comic -- in person -- seamlessly roll through his/her routine, as the audience anxiously awaits the punchline, to eventually burst with laughter time after time.
Plus, laughing isn’t just to brighten your day, there’s health benefits, too! According to the Mayo Clinic;
Laughter enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles, and increases the endorphins that are released by your brain.
The result? A good, relaxed feeling which means – less stress – at least for a couple of hours.
Joker's in Cedar Falls opened in 1994 off University Avenue in Cedar Falls. (The building is currently occupied by Papa Murphy’s and Lebeda Mattress.) You could even chow down on a pizza while watching comedy! (Giovanni's Pizzeria was located in the back of the club in the early 2000s)
In 2007 Joker's moved to Main Street (Currently the home of Voodoo Lounge), before closing its doors for good in 2017.
They all weren’t A-list comics, but for the price of some laughs and a few drinks with a group of friends, it was worth every penny.
