According to Tama-Toledo News Chronicle, the largest employer in Tama is about to get even bigger. Iowa Premium is a beef processing plant that just received $14 million in state and local tax incentives to construct a new processing facility.

This new facility is expected to open sometime in 2024 and would bring 396 new full-time jobs to the area, according to the report.  Most of the new jobs would pay at or above $20 per hour and offer "health benefits with over 50 percent company-paid medical premiums for single and family coverage."

The new state-of-the-art facility is planned to be built just north of the current plant, which lies on the eastern portion of Tama. It's expected to take up around 800,000 square feet and cost about $26 million. Although the total cost of the project is budgeted at $561 million. Talk about a pretty penny!

When is the new Iowa Premium plant set to open?

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in the spring of 2022. Hopes are that it will be completed sometime late in 2024. You can get more details on the plan for the new facility in the article here.

This isn't the only beef processing plant headed to the state either. Cattlemen’s Heritage is building a new $325 million Iowa beef processing plant in Mills County. That's set to open sometime in late 2023.
