29 years ago tonight near St. Louis, in the middle of the song "Rocket Queen," Axl Rose wanted security to remove a fan who was taking pictures of the band. After nothing was done, the frontman took things into his own hands by diving into the crowd, and tackling the fan and assaulting others nearby.

After he climbed back onstage, he announced “Well, thanks to the lame-ass security, I’m going home!” He then slammed his microphone to the stage and did not return. Slash followed-suit saying, "He just smashed the microphone. We’re out of here."

An hours-long riot by angry fans ensued, resulting in more than 50 injuries and Rose was charged with "inciting a riot."  A judge ruled that he did not directly incite the riot.

GNR was banned from the arena until they were allowed to perform at the venue in 2017 during the "Not in This Lifetime Tour."
