Guns N' Roses released the power ballad ‘November Rain’ from Use your Illusion I on February 18, 1992.

The song clocked in at just under nine minutes, making it the longest song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart to land inside the Top 10.

November Rain peaked at #3 and was kept out of the top spot on the charts by TLC's "Baby-Baby-Baby" at #2 and Boyz II Men's "End of the Road" at #1. (Hot 100 Chart 8/29/1992)

The music video was the first music video from 1990s to reach over one billion views on YouTube. It achieved that feat in 2018 and currently has over 1.5 billion views.

The video featured Axl Rose marrying his then-girlfriend Stephanie Seymour (she was also in the video for ‘Don’t Cry’) and then attending her funeral.

It is still one of the most expensive music videos ever made costing over a rumored $1.5 million. Reported expenses included:

  • Renting a symphony orchestra: $25,000
  • Specially constructed chapel: $150,000
  • Wedding dress: $8,000
  • Specially constructed coffin: $8,000

However, GNR’s video for their 1993 single, “Estranged” (from Use Your Illusion II) cost AT LEAST $4,000,000.
