For the second week in a row, 15 high school football teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are ranked by the Associated Press.

Nearly half of the region's rated teams are featured among the top five in their respective classes. Three of those teams -- North Linn, North Butler and Grundy Center -- compete in Class A. The Lynx are ranked at No. 2, the Bearcats are No. 3 and the Spartans are No. 5. Another area squad in the survey is East Buchanan, which is ranked at No. 9.

Waukon is ranked third in the Class 2A survey, four spots ahead of No. 9 North Fayette Valley.

Waverly-Shell Rock (Class 4A) is one of three area teams ranked at No. 5, along with West Delaware (Class 3A) and Dike-New Hartford (Class 1A). Decorah is ranked four spots below Waverly-Shell Rock, while Independence is ranked right behind West Delaware at No. 6. Dike-New Hartford shares the Class 1A spotlight with Denver, which is ranked at No. 10.

In the eight-player class, three area teams are feature among the top 10. They are: Turkey Valley at No. 7, Kee High at No. 8 and Gladbrook-Reinbeck at No. 10.

The regular season ends this week for teams that compete in Iowa's four smallest classes. Teams that fail to qualify for the playoffs have the option of scheduling an additional regular season game.
