[UPDATE MONDAY, APRIL 11 7 PM]

32-year-old Timothy L. Rush has been arrested in connection with the shooting Sunday morning at Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. He's being held at the Linn County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • 2nd Degree Murder
  • Willful Injury - Causing Serious Injury
  • Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Reckless Use of a Firearm – Causing Serious Injury
  • Possession of a Firearm as a Felon.

The investigation in the case continues.

[UPDATE MONDAY, APRIL 11 1:10 PM] The Cedar Rapids Police Department has released the names of the two individuals who were killed in an early-morning shooting Sunday.

25-year-old Michael Valentine and 35-year-old Nicole Owens, both of Cedar Rapids, were killed in the shooting at Taboo Nightclub and Lounge.

The CRPD reports the investigation in the case is ongoing.

[UPDATE SUNDAY, 3:10 PM] At a Sunday afternoon press conference, Police Chief Wayne Jerman confirmed two people were killed and 10 [were injured in the early-morning shooting in downtown Cedar Rapids. Jerman believes one of the people killed was the target of the shooting. One of the injured remains in critical condition. All of the injuries sustained were the direct result of gunfire inside the club.

Jerman says there were between 100 to 150 people inside the Taboo nightclub at the time of the incident, which happened at approximately 1:27 a.m. The shootings all happened inside the business.

Jerman says those killed were one adult female and one adult male. No other information on their identities is being released at this time. They are the 4th and 5th murder victims in Cedar Rapids this year.

Chief Jerman said he believes there were two shooters, both males. Thus far the reason(s) behind the shootings has not been determined.

[ORIGINAL STORY SUNDAY, APRIL 10 6:45 AM] Cedar Rapids Police are investigating an early morning shooting in downtown Cedar Rapids that left two people dead. The Cedar Rapids Police Department also says, "approximately ten more are injured and receiving medical attention at multiple local hospitals."

According to a media release from Cedar Rapids Police, the shooting happened just before 1:30 Sunday morning at Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. It's located at 415 3rd Street SE, in the Sokol Hall & Gymnasium. It's located across from the Map Room restaurant and just down from Jimmy John's.

Officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department were doing routine patrols in the downtown area when the shooting happened and responded immediately. Police report the scene is secure and there is no threat to public safety. Witness interviews are being conducted and CRPD Crime Scene Investigators remain on location.
