State investigators have identified the two police officers who fired at a man in Waterloo early Sunday morning (April 5, 2015).

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), officers Thomas Frein and Mark Nissen both fired shots at a vehicle being driven by Javon Webb, 27, of Waterloo. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. while police were trying to break up a fight involving about 40 people in the parking lot outside New World Lounge 2 at 504 Riehl Street (Click Here For Original Story).

Webb allegedly got into a vehicle and attempted to leave the parking lot. As he was fleeing, the DCI said Webb drove towards Waterloo officer Steve Bose, striking him with the vehicle. Frein and Nissen then fired shots at Webb.

According to the DCI, Webb fled the scene and arrived at Unity Point-Allen Hospital a short time later seeking treatment for multiple gunshot wounds. He is currently in stable condition.

Bose was also treated at Allen for injuries sustained when he was hit by Webb’s vehicle. He was later released from the hospital.

The officers involved in the shooting are currently on administrative leave, which is standard Waterloo police department procedure. The case is being investigated by the Iowa DCI.

State investigators continue to conduct interviews. They are attempting to identify other witnesses who were at the New World Lounge 2 at the time of the incident.

Authorities are asking any witnesses to contact the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation at (319) 277-4601, Extension 108.
