State officials are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Waterloo early Sunday morning (April 5, 2015).

The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the parking lot outside the New World Lounge 2 at 504 Riehl Street. Waterloo police were called to the scene to break up a fight involving nearly 40 people.

While attempting to break up the disturbance, police said a man got into a vehicle and attempted to leave the parking. According to captain Dave Mohlis, the man drove toward and struck a Waterloo police officer as he was fleeing. The action resulted in police firing shots at the vehicle.

Javon Webb, 27, of Waterloo, arrived at a Unity Point-Allen Hospital a short time later to be treated for gunshot wounds, Mohlis said. Webb is listed in critical, but stable condition.

Mohlis said the officer struck by the vehicle was treated at Allen and released.

According to Mohlis, the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is department policy. The names of the officers have not yet been released.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting the probe into the officer-involved shooting.
