Semis Hauling Hogs, Pork Loins Collide in Grundy County
Officials in Grundy County are investigating an accident between two semis – one pulling a livestock trailer loaded with hogs and the other a refer trailer loaded with pork loins.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. Tuesday (January 6, 2015) at the Iowa Highway 14-U.S Highway 20 interchange, about seven miles north of Grundy Center.
Sheriff's officials say a southbound semi hauling hogs on Highway 14 was struck broadside by a refer truck, which was westbound on Highway 20. According to authorities, the refer truck rolled through a stop sign at the bottom of the exit ramp.
Deputies cited the refer's driver – Buyantsogt Batbayar, 33, of Bellevue, Wash. – for “failure to yield at a through highway”. Authorities identified the other driver as Nathaniel Faber, 36, of Algona. Both drivers escaped injury.
Sheriff's officials say damage to the two semis totalled approximately $80,000.
