The second Iowa high school girls basketball poll features 11 teams from the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa.  Five are rated among the top five in their respective classes.

Waterloo West and Cedar Falls are among the strongest teams in Class 5A. The Wahawks are ranked No. 2 and the Tigers are ranked No. 3, behind No. 1 Johnston.

Defending state champion Dike-New Hartford (No. 1), Grundy Center (No. 2) and Denver (No. 3) lead the the Class 2A poll. Other area teams ranked in the survey are Jesup at No. 10 and Aplington-Parkersburg at No. 14.

Other teams ranked from the area are East Buchanan (No. 11 in Class 1A), Central Elkader (No. 14 in Class 1A) and Vinton-Shellsburg (No. 11 in Class 3A).

The new survey was released Thursday afternoon by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU), which also compiled and released a pre-season poll prior to Thanksgiving.
