The Cedar Valley will have a new home team to cheer for soon, The Cedar Valley Charge minor league football team.

The upstart team, headed by owner and head coach Rob Weiss, hopes to provide "high-quality professional football to the community, to offer family-friendly sports entertainment, and to give back to the area through community service, donations, and professional development classes for our players and the general public".

The Charge season will begin in mid to late May, and will be playing against teams from Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota. Initial tryouts for the team were held on January 25th at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo, with players travelling from as far away as Des Moines, LaCrosse, and Dubuque for a chance to make the team.
