A busy Cedar Falls street will be closed for reconstruction, starting Wednesday (June 3, 2015).

State Street is being rebuilt from East 5th Street to the southern entrance of 510 State Street and from 602 State Street's entrance south to East 8th Street, Cedar Falls city engineer Matthew Hosford said.

During the construction project, the intersections at East 5th and East 7th will be closed. The intersections at East 6th and East 8th will remain open, as will the entrances to 510 and 602 State Street.

In order for the contractor to begin pavement removal, a full road closure of State Street is required. The project is expected to take about ten to twelve weeks to complete, depending on the weather.

During the closure, alternate garbage pickup points will be required for residents who normally place automated collection carts within the closure area on State Street. Residents can place their collection carts on the open portion of State Street or Crescent Drive during this stage of the street closure. This should be done on the normal collection day for that particular street.

Yard waste collection carts can be placed curbside at the same location as the garbage collection carts for Monday pickup. Yard waste may also be taken to the transfer station in any type of container when the transfer station is open.

The State Street reconstruction project is one of several impacting motorists in Cedar Falls this summer. Extensive road work is currently in progress on University Avenue, west of Hudson Road. Nighttime resurfacing work is also being done on multiple roads in the Cedar Falls Industrial Park.
