Woman Who Left Poo Buckets At Police Station Tells Her Side of The Story
Yesterday, we came across a story of a woman who left three buckets of poop - equalling out to 50lbs of the nasty excrement - out in front of a police station, and we knew that if there was ever a perfect example of "There are two sides to every story," this was it.
This morning, we had Mindy Stephens on the phone, and she explained the real reason behind her decision.
"I had a renter who was renting a back apartment, and he was being evicted after living there. He'd been living without paying for rent or utilities for a year," Mindy said.
"He trashed the place, and I had to clean it all up, which is when I found the poop. He had buckets of poop. He'd been pooping in the buckets."
"I saw a 5-gallon bucket on top of a milk crate with a board over it. I flipped the board over and saw what was inside and thought, "Aw, what the hell?" she told us.
After the officers took him away and removed him from the property, she knew she had to get the buckets of human waste out of there but wasn't sure who to call.
Listen to Mindy's Interview Here:
The police said it was a civil matter.
"Civil matter? It's a biohazard," Mindy said.
The EPA told her to "Take the buckets to the proper authorities." So, she put the buckets on her trailer and drove them to the police station in her hazmat suit.
Two of the buckets were five-gallon buckets of poop, and one was a pail full of pee. As far as the hazmat suit, she got it at Walmart on clearance, for a deal of $3.
"The judge that signed my warrant liked my post about the poop buckets, which I thought was unprofessional," she said, of the arrest warrant that was signed on November 14th but wasn't served until this past week.
Knowing of her arrest warrant, Mindy prepaid her bond, so when she was arrested for illegal dumping, she was able to leave on her own recognizance after she was processed.
Mindy doesn't have a date yet for when she's to appear in court, but she hopes to just get the whole thing over with.
She also said she doesn't plan on renting out the apartment anytime soon, if ever.
A GoFundMe has been started to help with Mindy's legal fees.
