Waterloo Woman Leads Chase in Cedar Rapids

A Waterloo woman faces charges after leading Cedar Rapids Police on a high speed chase.

The incident began at about 12:15pm Wednesday, when an officer tried to pull over a speeding car on Highway 30, near the I-380 exit.

The driver, later identified as 37 year old Tonkeya Jackson, accelerated to 120 mph during the pursuit.

Jackson led officers to Mount Vernon, where authorities laid out stop sticks. One of Jackson's tires went flat, but she continued east through Lisbon and Mechanicsville, where the car went off the road and started on fire.

Jackson attempted to escape on foot, but was caught at around 12:30pm. She was taken to the Linn County jail, where charges are pending.

Several law enforcement agencies assisted Cedar Rapids Police during the chase, including police departments from Mount Vernon, Lisbon, and Mechanicsville, sheriff's offices from Linn and Cedar Counties, and the Iowa State Patrol.
