Waterloo Police Identify Woman Killed In Monday Night Shooting
Authorities have released the name of the woman killed in a Waterloo shooting Monday night (Sept. 10, 2018).
The victim has been identified as Diane Martin, 48, of Waterloo. According to police, she was struck inside a house at 84 Ricker Street when someone outside began shooting into the home around 9:45 PM.
Results of an autopsy conducted by the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Officers on Wednesday show that Martin died from a single gunshot wound. Officers found two vehicles struck by bullets in the area, police said. Residents about three blocks away also reported hearing gunshots about the time Martin was killed.
Records confirm that Martin is the mother of Shavondes Martin, the 22-year-old man whose body was found in an alley between Washington and South Streets near downtown Waterloo on May 31. Police aren't sure if there's any connection between the two murders. No arrests have been reported in either case, and both remain under investigation.
The shooting that killed Diane Martin was one of two that occurred in Waterloo Monday night.
About three hours earlier, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of Logan Ave. In that shooting, police said Corey Dunn, 18, suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
Authorities haven't said whether they believe the Monday night shootings are connected.
