Waterloo Bicyclist Struck By Car Dies
A bicyclist who was hit by a car in Waterloo Tuesday afternoon has died of injuries he suffered in the accident.
Police confirmed in a Thursday morning press release that Dilail Salkic, 22, of Waterloo, died on Wednesday. Authorities said they were scheduling an autopsy with the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Tuesday's accident happened just before 4 PM near the intersection of W. 3rd Street and Western Ave. When police and fire rescue paramedics arrived, they found the injured Salkic at the scene.
Witnesses told police a yellow car hit the bicyclist, then drove away. Authorities later found a damaged vehicle matching their description about a block away and arrested the driver.
Police have charged L.A. Jefferson, 42, of Waterloo with leaving the scene of a serious accident. He was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail, where bond was set at $100,000.
