Van Ends Up In Buchanan County Creek After Washout
Repairs are needed to a rural Buchanan County road following a wash out over the weekend.
According to sheriff's officials, a section of Bryantsburg Blvd. caved in near a creek crossing south of Hazelton. The damaged road runs adjacent to Iowa Highway 150.
Authorities said a van ended up in the hole created by the washout, which severed underground power and cable lines. Pictures taken by the Iowa State Patrol show the van's front tires landed in the creek bed. Sheriff's officials said two occupants inside the vehicle both escaped without injury.
Buchanan County deputies were called to the scene around 8:30 a.m. Friday (June 23, 2017). The Iowa State Patrol, though, is in charge of the investigation.
