Valentine's Day has become more of a Hallmark holiday in the United States, commercialized to the point the men should be buying chocolate and flowers for their sweethearts and it's basically a way to spend a lot of money for one day. However, for other countries around the world this holiday has other meanings.

Let's take a look at some of the other traditions around the world this Valentine's Day.

1. Valentine's Day cards are rumored to start in France. The first Valentine's Day card is reported to have been sent in 1415 by a French Duke who was kept prisoner in the Tower of London and sent love letters and poems.

2. In the Philippines, every year on Valentine's Day mass weddings are held to allow those who can't afford to get married a way to do it cheaply and on a romantic holiday.

3. In Findland, instead of Valentine's Day February 14th is known as "Friend's Day" where they celebrate their friendships not just romantic relationships.

4. In Japan, women are the ones who get their husbands gifts and they are the only ones who only get the gifts. Women do not get gifts from their husbands.

5. In South Korea, they have a tradition known as "Black Day" which is celebrated  on April 14th for single people who don't get a gift on Valentine's Day hang out with other single friends and eat black noodles.
