Two Killed, One Hurt In Buchanan County Accident
Authorities are investigating a three-vehicle accident that killed two eastern Iowa men and injured a third person in Buchanan County Monday afternoon.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 40-year-old Nicholas Johnson of Oelwein and 70-year-old John Friend of Davenport died in the head-on crash on Iowa Highway 150 near Hazleton. Officials said Johnson’s vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with Friend’s vehicle, killing the two drivers. Another unidentified person was air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City to be treated for undisclosed injuries.
The third vehicle involved in the crash was hit by flying debris when the other two vehicles slammed into each other, officials said.
The accident, which happened around 3 PM, closed Iowa Highway 150 south of Hazleton for several hours.
Semi Rolls Over In Cedar Falls
Public safety officials in Cedar Falls rescued a woman and four dogs from an overturned semi tractor-trailer Monday.
Authorities were dispatched to the U.S. Highway 218/Iowa Highway 58 interchange around 4:30 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered that a southbound Stella Rose Van Lines semi out of Concrete, Wash., had rolled onto its side after the driver lost control.
Officials identified the driver as Sherill Hustler of Concrete, Wash. They said she was trapped inside the rig's cab with her four dogs and had to be extricated by public safety officials. Hustler and the four animals escaped injury.
