There are a few award-winning musicals to enjoy here in Iowa this spring and summer!
When it comes to Broadway, the musical Hamilton is definitely one of the most popular shows of the last decade. Since premiering Off-Broadway back in 2015, it has received endless recognition and has won a TON of awards. According to Wikipedia:
"At the 70th Tony Awards, Hamilton received a record-breaking 16 nominations and won 11 awards, including Best Musical. It received the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama."
Written by Linn-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton tells the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton using a variety of musical genres, including hip-hop, jazz, and R&B. A filmed version of the stage performance is currently available to watch on the Disney+ streaming service, but if you want to experience it live, you'll be happy to know that it's coming to Iowa this spring!
