The Hawkeye Wave Song at Iowa Football Games is Going to Change
September 2, 2017 (above) was the first day the crowd at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City turned and waved to hospitalized children at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. It was the beginning of the best, and most meaningful tradition in college football. While it will continue in 2022, a different song will provide the backdrop.
The University of Iowa announced this morning that they'd like fans to nominate a new song for the Hawkeye Wave. It will replace "Wave on Wave" by Pat Green.
In a Thursday morning media release University of Iowa Vice President for External Relations and Senior Advisor to the President, Peter Matthes said,
We are thankful that Pat Green really embraced the tradition and even honored us with a live performance before a packed stadium. Now five years later, we think it’s time to let fans choose the next great song to accompany the Hawkeye Wave because this is their tradition.
You can nominate a song to play during the Hawkeye Wave HERE. The top eight nominated songs will be up for fan voting, beginning Monday, July 11. Another vote will get it down to the top four, a third round of voting will determine the top two, and then one final vote will determine which song becomes the new Hawkeye Wave anthem.
The winning song will be announced on Monday, August 1, and will debut at the end of the first quarter of the Iowa-South Dakota State game at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, September 3.
