One of my favorite discoveries ever since I moved to Iowa has been a classic Midwest delicacy; taco pizza. It has all of the fun of pizza, and the heft of a twenty-pound taco.

I've been on a bit of a mission to find the best taco pizza in the area. Back home on the East Coast, the closest thing we have to taco pizza is a walking taco. My mind was blown when I saw you could put all of the good parts of a taco on a pizza.

Several Iowans say that the absolute best taco pizza they've ever had was from a place called Happy Joe's. When you see a whole bunch of people give the same answer to this question, you have to check it out.

Some Iowans even say this is where the very first taco pizza was born.

The founder of the restaurant (Happy) Joe Whitty, was born in North Dakota in September of 1937. Nearly 30 years later, he moved to Davenport and worked at a local bakery. After several different interesting projects, one of which involves a bakeshop at an area hospital and managing several different chain restaurants, he finally opened up his own store, according to the franchise website.

The original restaurant is in Davenport and opened in November of 1972, according to their website.

The Taco Joe's is the most popular item on their menu, and several people swear that it's the best taco pizza they've ever had. There are 23 locations right here in Iowa. These include several ones somewhat close by including; Dubuque, Dyersville, and Cedar Rapids.

These are the closest locations to Waterloo, unfortunately.

Hilarious Iowa DOT Signs

Anyone else share a sense of humor with a state's Department of Transportation? Just me? Well, every Monday the Iowa Department of Transportation puts up a sometimes hilarious, sometimes straightforward message on their road signs across the state. This is called "message Monday" and Iowa DOT tries to entertain and educate drivers through these signs. Here are just a few of our favorites.
