Some Relief to the Brutal Cold Late this Morning
A Wind Chill Warning remains in effect for the area this morning (Jan. 2, 2018), but the forecast calls for the Cedar Valley to break above the zero degree mark for the first time in three days.
The Wind Chill Warning for the area continues until noon today. We start the day dealing with dangerous Wind Chill factors. We can expect 25 to 40 below zero wind chill.
"Some relief to the brutal cold is anticipated later his morning as ambient temperatures rise above zero and thus allowing for the 30 to 40 below wind chills to decrease. West to southwest winds look to gradually increase late this morning into the afternoon and produce wind chills from 15 to 25 below zero at times." National Weather Service in Des Moines
Today's forecast calls for sunshine and a high around nine degrees. Wind chill values will still be brutal, bottoming out as low as 30 below zero.
There is a chance of snow tonight with a mostly cloudy sky. Overnight low will be one degree and wind chill values as low as -10. The chance of snow precipitation is 50% with less than a half-inch possible.
