Shots Prompt Waterloo School Lockdown

More apparent gunplay in Waterloo has prompted the lockdown of an elementary school for a short time.

Just before 2pm Thursday, residents near Irving Elementary School, located on West 5th Street, reported hearing 4 or 5 gunshots. Witnesses also spotted a person running to a vehicle that sped off.

No injuries were reported. There were no students in the vicinity. As a precaution, Irving Elementary school was notified, and a lockdown went into place, until the all-clear was declared by Waterloo Police, about 15 minutes later.

No shell casings were found in the area, but authorities have retrieved video from nearby surveillance cameras.
