Ray Doesn’t Get Enough Credit for Choosing Mr. Stay Puft
Mr. Stay Puft was a great choice.I love the Ghostbusters movies and both of them were on back-to-back on the FreeForm channel over the weekend.
As the 4 guys are battling Gozer, they are told they must choose the form of the one who is going to destroy everything. They all clear their heads except for Ray (Dan Aykroyd) who allows Mr. Stay Puft to pop into his brain. "I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us, Mr. Stay Puft. We used to roast Stay Puft marshmallows by the fire at Camp Wokonda."
Now granted, maybe they could have chosen a 1 inch sloth or something but a giant marshmallow is not a bad choice. Look how easy marshmallows ignite. Every 90's kid knows "when the mallow's flamin', you put it on the graham." (Sandlot 1993) To put it in perspective, the proton pack is a beam of light and energy that has the ability to wrap itself around a ghost and hold it until the trap can be set. So when the guys use the proton pack on Mr. Stay Puft, it wasn't to weaken it like other ghosts. It was just to set it on fire. Other than stepping on a church, Mr. Stay Puft didn't really do anything. Just directed the flames (from himself being on fire) back to the Ghostbusters. Egon (Harold Ramis) got the idea to just go take out Gozer and Mr. Stay Puft would be taken care of in the aftermath which ***SPOILER ALERT*** is exactly what happens.
Mr. Stay Puft might be the most ineffective villain in movie history. See for yourself here.
