Popular Starbucks Coffee Drink Is Officially 20 Years Old
Love them or hate them, these beverages sure do make this popular coffee shop a ton of money. Normally the term pumpkin spice is associated with the fall season but at the time of writing (August 24) you can officially purchase this popular coffee beverage at Starbucks.
Pumpkin spice lattes are back on sale and August 24 is tied for the earliest the coffee chain has debuted this beverage. Not only are these lattes on sale, tied for earlier than ever before, but the pumpkin spice latte is also 20 years old this year.
According to KCRG, this is Starbucks's most popular seasonal beverage and there have been hundreds of millions of beverages sold since its debut in 2003. As I'm sure you'd guess there is a pretty loud part of social media that isn't a big fan of a fall drink being released before the fall season actually arrives. They might affect my wallet a little bit because my fiance loves these things.
I guess I'd fall somewhere in between the "I don't really care when Starbucks releases seasonal drinks" and the "Why can't they wait until we're closer to fall" sides of the aisle. I don't drink pumpkin spice lattes so whenever they officially arrive each year doesn't affect me very much.
I also understand that they make Starbucks company a LOT of money every year. I just wish they'd go back to selling these closer to October like they used to. According to Starbucks, they originally debuted on October 10, 2003.
I'm not here to ruin anyone's happiness. If you enjoy pumpkin spice lattes, I hope you drink them to your heart's content. It does seem to feel like what made these drinks special is being taken away a little bit. They don't feel like a celebration of fall anymore. I'm not sure why they don't just continue to sell them year-round at this point.
To each their own I suppose. If you enjoy pumpkin spice lattes, you can run to your nearest Starbucks today and grab one.
