An Evansdale man has been identified as the driver who died in a weekend accident in Grundy County.

Sheriff's officials said Scott VanGorder, 51, was killed when his car left U.S. Highway 20 Saturday evening (June 16, 2018). The crash occurred just after 9 PM at mile marker 193 about two-and-a-half miles west of the Iowa Highway 14 interchange.

VanGorder was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. According to information in a press release, VanGorder was traveling westbound on U.S. 20 when he drove off the right shoulder of the road. His vehicle struck a fence and tree, after going through a ditch.

Grundy County sheriff's officials continue to investigate the crash. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Wellsburg Fire and Ambulance personnel and Holland firefighters.
