Minneapolis (KROC AM News)  -The Minneapolis police officer at the heart of the George Floyd case has been arrested.

Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington made the announcement Friday.

Former officer Derek Chauvin has been arrested in the death of George Floyd. Chauvin is the officer seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck during an arrest for a minor crime Monday. Video of the incident showed Chauvin kept his knee of Floyd’s neck for several minutes until he went limp.  Floyd repeatedly pleaded for Chauvin to get off him, as did witnesses.

Chauvin and three other officers at the scene were fired the next day.

More information is expected to be released Friday afternoon.
