Buchanan County authorities have arrested an Oelwein man and a Hazleton man, after leading deputies on a short chase.

The incident started at about 12:30am Friday (Nov. 20) when a Buchanan County Deputy attempted to pull over a car in Hazleton. The driver, 33 year old Blaze Shoultz of Hazleton, attempted to elude the deputy, and a short pursuit began, near Hayes Street and First Street North in Hazleton.

After the car was stopped, Shoultz was taken into custody for Eluding, second degree Theft, Driving While License Suspended, Interference with Official Acts, and was cited for Failure to Maintain Control, Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device and Speeding Violations.

His passenger, 45 year old James Choate of Oelwein, was arrested for third or subsequent offense Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and second degree Theft.

The Buchanan County Sheriff was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
