Maynard Teenager Dies In Hit-and-Run Crash; Suspect Being Sought
Fayette County authorities are looking for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash, and they're asking potential witnesses to come forward to provide information about the accident.
Sheriff's officials said Kaiden Estling, 14, of Maynard, was killed when the moped he was driving on Iowa Highway 150 was struck by another vehicle that fled the scene before deputies arrived. The accident occurred approximately two miles south of Fayette shortly after 10 PM on Thursday (June 28, 2018).
According to Sheriff Marty Fisher, Estling was driving a blue 2016 Yongfu YN50QT-21 moped on Iowa 150 near 118th Street when he was struck by the other vehicle. After being hit, Estling lost of control of the moped and ended up near the west ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene after multiple life-saving attempts, Fisher said.
The accident remains under investigation by Fayette County sheriff's officials, who are being assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
