Guns aren't the easiest thing to get your hand on in Japan, so robbers typically are using things like big knives for intimidating people during robberies. For whatever reason, some have a hard time getting ahold of those.

Tomoharu Nakamura of Sapporo, Hokkaido had the great idea to use a lighter as his weapon of choice during a robbery attempt.

The 41-year-old entered a convenience store with his lighter, clicked it on and told the manager, “Out with the money or I’ll light you up!”

Now, the manager had to make a decision, and being he isn't made out of lighter fluid and dryer lint, he decided on going to the backroom to call the cops. Because the robbery happened in the middle of the day, the store had customers who left so as not to lose any arm hair or eyebrows.

Police arrived on the scene quickly, which caused Nakamura to turn his lighter on them instead. Luckily, the officers figured they could overcome a cigarette lighter, and wrestled him to the ground.

After caught, Nakamura admitted to robbing the store, and was charged with assaulting a police officer, obstructing police business, and possibly damage to property as the store’s walls got banged up during the entire incident.
