An investigation conducted by the Waterloo Police Department has reached a crucial step. Earlier this week, officials made a startling discovery.

Now, a missing person's case is also solved.

According to a press release from the Waterloo police department, at 12:17 PM authorities were made aware of "possible human remains" at the Waterloo Waste Treatment Plant.

Officials arrived at the scene (2550 Kenyon Avenue in Waterloo) and were directed to the area where these remains were located.

The remains were to the Iowa Medical Examiner’s so authorities could figure out the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.

After the remains were taken in, authorities were able to identify the deceased. Officials from the Waterloo Police Department positively identified the human body to be the remains of 52-year-old Darrin Lenton.

Lenton was reported missing on July 10th of 2011 when he was 49 years old.

Officials confirm that the Iowa Medical Examiner’s Office will continue to conduct testing on the remains. As of right now, there seems to be no evidence of foul play, according to the Waterloo Police Department.
