Iowa State is currently the only university in the country with 3 teams ranked in the top 10 in three AP polls.

Iowa State University currently has the Cyclone football team ranked 9th, the men's basketball team ranking is at number 5 in the preseason basketball polls and the women's basketball team is currently ranked 8th in the preseason polls. Not too shabby for a University a lot of Iowa Hawkeye fans call "little brother" here in Iowa.

According to KCCI, the last time a school was in the top 10, in all three of these polls, was Baylor in 2021. While those 3 Iowa State teams are ranked as some of the best in the country, the highest-ranked Iowa State program is the Cyclone Cross Country, which is ranked 4th in the nation. Not only that but the wrestling rankings should be released soon and Iowa State is predicted to be in the top 10 for wrestling as well.

Cy the Cardinal Over The Years

Iowa is called the "Hawkeye State" for a reason. The University of Iowa is the biggest and most popular school in the state. We've recently discussed some of the best Hawkeye logos throughout the years, which have seen some pretty dramatic changes. We've also discussed some other popular "Hawkeyes" and if the University of Iowa were to change their mascot to one of these characters.

While the Hawkeye mascot is popular throughout the country, I wanted to take a look at Cy and see some of the changes Iowa State's Cardinal mascot has seen throughout the years. Thankfully, I got lucky and Iowa Chill's social media did some of this work for me already.

Is it just me or has Cy, basically stayed the same since the 1950s?

For the most part, Cy hasn't changed much in 75 years. We've seen slight modifications and/or changes but other than the beak and the addition of a smile, Cy looks the same. When it comes to the Iowa State University logo, we've seen a ton of changes over the years but Cy the mascot has remained pretty consistent.
