Major Bridge in Eastern Iowa to Close for Year-Long Construction
Plan Your Commute: Iowa 3 Bridge in Waverly to Close for Construction
As soon as the snow starts to melt in the Hawkeye State, we begin to see a different type of nuisance pop up...the dreaded line of orange cones signaling road work ahead.
Iowans are no strangers to road construction.
With the Iowa Department of Transportation taking on the maintenance of approximately 9,616 miles of roadway and 721 miles of ramps, it's no surprise just how much road work we see every year.
This summer, a major bridge in Eastern Iowa will be shut down so improvements can be made.
According to officials from the Iowa DOT, the Iowa 3 bridge over the Cedar River in Waverly will be replaced.
Construction on this project will begin on August 5th, 2024 and is predicted to wrap up in the fall of 2025.
DOT is planning to have teams working on the bridge throughout the winter, weather permitting.
What Detours Should I Take If I'm Driving in that Area?
Over the course of this year long project, you'll have to follow a marked detour route instead of taking the Iowa 3 Bridge.
It will take you right along 10th Avenue Southwest and Cedar River Parkway.
In addition, pedestrian access businesses east of the river in Waverly will be maintained, according to Iowa DOT officials.
