Iowa Hawkeye George Kittle Faces the Music After Losing Bet to Brock Purdy [WATCH]
The Iowa Hawkeyes recently beat Troy this past weekend (September 14) but the week before that, the Hawkeyes fell to the Iowa State Cyclones.
You might have missed one of the best tight ends in the NFL and a former Iowa Hawkeye, George Kittle, facing the music with a friendly bet he made with his teammate and former Iowa State Cyclone, Brock Purdy.
While Brock Purdy and George Kittle are current teammates for the San Francisco 49ers and they have their eyes set on making a return to the Super Bowl, they still had some fun placing a little bet on their college football teams. On September 11, George Kittle faced the music as you might notice something interesting about the equipment he was wearing while talking to the media after practice last week.
According to his Twitter profile, Cam Inman is an NFL reporter for the 49ers football team and after practice last Wednesday, he captured this video with George Kittle wearing a helmet that he had hoped to never have to put on.
Kittle isn't wearing just any old Iowa State helmet either. This is the actual helmet that Brock Purdy wore during games at his time playing for Iowa State and it didn't appear to fit Kittle very well as he says "it's a small helmet." Kittle was also asked how quickly Purdy spoke to him after the Cyclone victory last weekend and Kittle responded with "instantly."
"Pretty quickly. He texted me the score instantly. I said, 'Thank you, Brock. You ruined my whole weekend."
Kittle had also joked about hoping to wear a dark visor on the helmet, likely to hide his face from the media when they visited his locker. This isn't the first time we've seen a bet like this from these two NFL stars. Last year, the Hawkeyes traveled to Jack Trice Stadium and they beat Iowa State 20-13. Kittle won the bet last year as Brock Purdy showed up wearing this mascot helmet during his time with the media.
I'm curious how this bet evolves over time and how extreme these two players with get with this fun rivalry. Will they make the loser wear a full uniform next year, pads included? What if they make the loser sing the other school's fight song in front of the entire media and locker room before answering questions from reporters?
Whatever they do, I'm all for it and it will be something I keep an eye on every year after the Cy-Hawk Football game. What a small but fun thing for these two teammates and NFL stars to look forward to every year.
What would you want to see the loser do next year? Let us know in the comments!
