Free Fireworks? Cedar Falls Says Yes, Here’s When & Where

Last year, the City of Cedar Falls did something new. They kicked off the annual Sturgis Falls celebration with a huge fireworks display over the UNI-Dome.

It was a great night and a fun show, so why not run it back... with an even bigger show for 2025?

The Fireworks Are Back, Bigger and Better for 2025

It was one of my favorite events last year. Now, I'm a fireworks fanatic, so that helps, but I was so excited when I got a call from Adam Bolander from Cedar Falls tourism saying, "Guess what's coming back!" I was pretty pumped.

The City of Cedar Falls and the University of Northern Iowa are teaming up again to bring you Fireworks Over the Dome on Thursday, June 26. Everyone is invited!

This free community event kicks off around 9:40 p.m. at the intramural fields just west of the UNI-Dome. If you're not familiar with Cedar Falls, that's 2501 Hudson Road for your GPS.

There's plenty of parking, and a large, grassy area perfect for lawn chairs and blankets.

But Wait, There's More!

Come early, not just for the fireworks, because this year it's not just about the fireworks.

This year’s show is going bigger and better, with a brand-new soundtrack broadcast live on K92.3, and for the first time ever, on-site concessions from UNI Athletics, so come early and come hungry!

Mayor Danny Laudick helped bring the fireworks celebration back to Cedar Falls last year, and it was such a hit, they had to hit repeat in 2025.

Mayor Laudick said in a press release,

The public response we received last year was incredible... This year’s show will be even longer and more spectacular—thanks to the amazing work from our City team, local sponsors, and the partnership with UNI.

It will be a (literal) blast, I hope to see you there!
