Who Makes the Playoff Games in the WNBA?

Currently, there are only twelve teams and two conferences (East and West) in the WNBA. The very last games during the regular season will be played on Thursday, September 19th.

This will be one of the rare days where all twelve teams will be playing.

In order to make it to the post-season, a team has to make it into the top eight in league rankings. So, the best eight teams will be going to the playoffs.

The top four teams have a shot at hosting a best-of-three first-round playoff games, according to reports.

As of August 28th, 2024, the only three teams in the league that have clinched their spot to the playoffs are the New York Liberty, Connecticut Sun, and Minnesota Lynx.

They've secured the top three spots.

The rest of the spots are up for grabs right now.

Caitlin Clark has a chance to do something that hasn't been done since 2016; help take the Indiana Fever to the playoffs.

While the team had a rough start to their season, they've been able to come back from those rocky games.

Now, the usual starters for the Fever are incredibly in tune with each other. Normally, the starting lineup includes Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, and NaLyssa Smith.

It's clear that the team took the time that they had during the Olympic break to kick things into high gear.

Since the second half of the WNBA season restarted in mid-August, the Indiana Fever have won three out of their last four games. They lost to the Minnesota Lynx, who just secured their post-season spot.

Currently, Clark and the Fever are sitting at seven in the rankings, right below the Phoenix Mercury and above the number eight Chicago Sky.

On Wednesday, August 28th the Fever will play the Sun who are currently ranked number two in the league. If they can manage an upset, the worst ranked team of last season could rise up in the rankings.

No matter the results of the Wednesday evening game, it's Saturday's matchup in Chicago that will be a MUST WATCH game.

Caitlin Clark will play against her college rival turned All-Star teammate Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. As of August 28th, the Sky is ranked eighth in the league.

Both teams are hungry to maintain their spots in the standings. One wrong move from either team could change the entire makeup of the playoffs.

From the way the Fever have been playing recently and based off of the current rankings, there's a strong chance that you'll see Caitlin Clark make her WNBA playoffs debut this season.
