City of Davenport Announces New Mobile Speed Cabinets
It's no secret that the City of Davenport has been using mobile speed camera vans to monitor speeding, typically through school zones, for the better part of a couple of decades. Now, they're adding a new tool to the mix.
Announced Saturday on Facebook, the City will now be deploying what they call "Mobile Speed Cabinets" as well.
The towers look to be pretty low profile, only standing a few feet off the ground, and appear to be essentially the movable version of the speed cameras that have been along Brady Street over the years.
According to the post, the vans will also still be in use; these will just be added in other areas at the same time.
"You may be used to seeing vans pop up around town, but now you’ll start to see these new mobile speed cabinets, too. The locations will stay the same. We’re just introducing some updated technology," the post reads.
The devices will have to follow the same rules put in place last year by the State of Iowa, which include nearly 40 locations.
Just like the vans, the cabinets will be moved around during the day and throughout the week. Luckily, the city posts the locations where the Automated Traffic Enforcement will be located at throughout the day.
For the week of Friday, Jan. 30th - Sunday, February 8th, the cabinets will be placed at the following locations at intervals throughout the day.
1900 Brady St / 3300 W Locust / 2800 Jersey Ridge Rd / 1000 W 53rd St.
For the same week, here are the locations of the Automated Traffic Enforcement Vans:
- Monday 2/2 : 5800 Eastern Ave.
- Tuesday 2/3 : 2800 Division St. -- 5700 Division St.
- Wednesday 2/4 : 2100 Marquette St.
- Thursday 2/5 : 1500 E Locust St.
- Friday 2/6 : 5700 Division St. -- 2800 Division St.
Stay safe out there, and slow it down, or you'll be getting a nice 4-panel photoshoot session of your vehicle.
