With all the traveling sports teams of all levels do, I'm always shocked (but grateful) we don't hear more stories about adverse situations or hang-ups like this. Again, I'm grateful we don't, but every now and then you get a story like this that reminds you how varied and strange road hazards can be for anyone.

On Monday, April 6th, the Clarke University baseball team had their own situation when a turkey struck their bus on Highway 151, per KCRG.

About the Clarke University Bus/Turkey Situation:

Shortly after 8am, along a rural stretch of Highway 151, a turkey crashed into the windshield of Clarke University baseball team's bus, according to Athletic Director Curt Long. The team was en route to Canton, MO, where they are set to face Culver-Stockton College.

Everyone on board the bus was fine, and the team was able to board a different one to get to Canton. That said, the status of the turkey was not provided, per KRCG. A viewer sent in pictures of the bus from Cascade to KCRG, which is what you see in the newscast embedded above.

The best news of all is that no one was hurt in this crash, but I can imagine many were shaken. The idea of a turkey colliding into a bus windshield is the type of thing that sets a Laurel & Hardy short into motion. It's not the first, second, third, or maybe even eighth road hazard that comes to mind.

Last week, Clarke University unveiled their lineup for Clarke Fest 2026. The event will take place on Saturday, April 25th on Clarke Drive in Dubuque. The event will occur from 4:30pm - 7pm on campus, and feature activities for students and attendees of all ages. It is free to attend. You can find out more information here.
