Highly-Rated Cedar Rapids Restaurant Closes for Good
It continues to be a tough environment for local restaurants. We love to tell you when new spots open, and it's always tough to tell you of another closing. A Cedar Rapids restaurant that had great reviews for its food and live music is now closed for good.
We've had too many local restaurants shut down in the past several weeks. Back in June, we learned that Via Sofia's 1st Ave location in Cedar Rapids was shutting down. And just yesterday, Chop House Downtown in Cedar Rapids announced that they too, were closing its doors. While it doesn't appear that any official announcement was made, it appears that Whiskey Jo's Pub and Grub in Cedar Rapids has closed its doors too.
Whiskey Jo's Facebook page states that the restaurant is permanently closed. The restaurant's last post on the page was July 18th. If you click on the link to its website, you get an advertisement for supporting local businesses.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Whiskey Jo's Pub and Grub opened in 2019 at 4617 J Street SW. Its menu featured burgers, wraps, sandwiches, pizza, appetizers, chicken and waffles, and dinner entrees like steak and broasted chicken. They had an open seating area and a stage for live music. Before Whiskey Jo's, the building was the site of The Fifth Gear.
It remains a tough economy for folks who run local restaurants. If you have a favorite local spot, visit them when you can. Sometimes great food and positive reviews just aren't enough.
